Informal settlements

A day in the life of a child in a informal settlement.

Hi I’m Scarlet Jones. I am in a informal settlement I used to be in a nice rich family with my mom, my dad, my sister and my brother and I used to have nice home until my dad went into debt and now it’s me my dad my sister and my brother. My mom died when I was 2 and now I’m 12, 10yrs later. I’m now in a shack with no electricity. let me tell u a story… so one morning I woke up to water dripping onto because of a leek in the roof RIGHT ABOVE MY BED but anyway I got up and my dad was still sleeping. I had to find food in the fridge that was old because it takes so long to walk the shops. On the way to school with my brother and sister THEY WERE FIGHTING THE WHOLE WAY I hate it when they fight I wish they would get along . They always fight about who is better and how mom died because the one was rude or the one was ugly or of disappointment but anyway when I got to school my feet were in so much pain. there are 60 kids in my class 30 girls and 30 boys. there are only 10 text books and it’s hard because we have to go to the bathroom in the same toilet. oh and by the way we don’t have desks we have to work on the floor. but when we finished school we got home to our dad and we did our homework but we had to do it at night because our dad ask if we can go get water from the communal tap. then we sat after in the dark working and then only went to the lake and washed ourselves with the water and no soap. then went to bed in the same smelly old clothes.
